Web design : Background

I didn't stumble into web design by the common route; I just did it out of boredom and depression. My Web experience came as a total accident. I've never undergone any sort of Web design training and I actually have a degree in History. As a matter of fact, you may find the story of my venture into the online world pretty laughable. It's only fair to tell you that I'm not a hardcore webslinger. I don't program at all, but I do like making clean, pretty, or elegant websites, so feel free to get in touch with me if that's the kind of style you're looking for in a website.

Upon discovering the joy of creating websites, I proceeded to create one after another, starting with a Sailormoon fansite, a website dedicated to a pop group (which did rather well for its time and which I believe even helped a single of said pop group zoom to the top of MTV Asia's charts), a Powerpuff Girls fansite, another one dedicated to Seravii of the anime Akazukin Chacha, and eventually moved on to a poetry site and the earliest incarnations of my personal homepage. All that while juggling schoolwork at the university.

A few months after graduation, I landed a job as a webmaster for the online division of a local magazine publishing company. "Webmaster" is a pretty archaic term, and I'm glad to report that today, they use the term "website content editor" for the person now in the position I used to hold. I would have gladly borne that title, but webmaster it was for three years.

But I digress. As a webmaster, I was not able to take on enough web designing projects, that being the province of the division's graphic designer. For the most part, I handled the daily website updates, content planning, newsletter writing, and the occasional HTML newsletter design.

Upon resigning from my job, I was since able to get my web designing bearings back, although it's only this year that I'm starting to actively get involved in web design again. Have a look at the designs I've done so far and please get in touch with me if my work interests you.
